What it takes to import using DHL from the USA to Nigeria

Just want to share with you guys who may want to start buying stuff on the internet and shipping them to Nigeria using DHL or other courier service.

As a reseller, one of the things you ought to consider is how to source for your products, considering the quality and cost too. Now, most of the best and latest tech products are available on us online stores and the easiest way to get them to Nigeria is by ordering online and the final shipping to Nigeria can be delivered using dhl or Fedex.

Stuffs that would mostly make economic sense to be sent via dhl includes dvds, light computer and office tools and so on. When it comes to shipping using a parcel service, you should put your mind on the weight of the item as shipping cost is mostly based on how heavy it is. But that doesn't mean that you can't ship most things from the USA to Nigeria using Air cargo, you just need to calculate you purchase and shipping cost to Nigeria in order to see if it really makes any economic sense to send it here in the first place.

Buying online on US online stores from Nigeria
As I earlier said in one of my posts on buying things online from US stores, one of the things you need is a US forwarding address to help you receive your good for onward shipping to Nigeria. This is mostly because most Americans don't ship directly to Nigeria unless it is from someone you really know and trust you. You can however purchase a US forwarding address on the internet by using a credit card or you might as well tell a friend to help you receive the goods if you are connected to someone there.

Costs to consider
- Purchase cost: This would include cost of getting a credit card loaded with US dollars
- Shippping cost: How much will it cost to ship to Nigeria? Consider the weight and dimensions. A myus.com address can help you estimate this

The process
- You already have or get a us forwarding address. You can get one from myus.com for $10/shipment or $60 per year
- You log on to the internet and connect to the store you want to purchase from
- Purchase the product. Purchasing in bulk can offer you more discount.
- Use US address as shipping address as well as billing address
- Use your Nigerian credit card to make payment
- Get updated by email when your US forwarding provider receives the goods
- Get updated when your forwarder sends shipping to Nigeria and you can track by sms
- Receive goods in Nigeria with valid form of identification

How long does shipping take to get to Nigeria?
Well as long as it has been sent to Nigeria, you should expect it to reach you within 3 to 5 business days.

MyUS receive the goods in your account and you then get an email of an item received. Afterwards, you decide on when to ship it to Nigeria.

To get low prices, you can first make a search on Amazon and then click the drop down button that allows you to set "Lowest to highest prices" and it will display lowest prices first.

Don't bother yourself with Paypal when there is Visa and Mastercard in Nigeria. Besides you can shop at Amazon.com rather than ebay.com. Paypal is a no no for Nigerians

DHL will only charge myus so they won't charge you again. You have no contract with dhl but rather with myus and you only pay them.

They would deliver to your address in Nigeria. You would need to register an address when opening an account.

I've used a Visa card from Intercontinental bank and a mastercard from Zenith bank. Not credit card in the strict sense but prepaid USD debit cards

You can get it with at least $120 to $150 from most Nigerian banks. For Zenith, I think there is a card fee of $20 while $100 would be loaded in your card.

You can use either but I would advise you use a Us dollar card so that you would have better control of the exchange rate

It is simple, he would just send it to your address in Nigeria and pay DHL for the shipping. He will then give you the tracking number so that you can monitor the shipment when it gets to Nigeria. If it says it's out for delivery, then it's most likely going to be delivered to you that same day.

If your ATM card is a Mastercard or Visa, then you can use it for making payments but you don't pay DHL directly since you are not the one sending the goods but you pay your shipping agent the DHL fee.

No they won't call you rather they will give it to someone else that can receive it at your address. You should track your item online, know which particular day it is coming and then wait at your address on that day. Once the tracking says it's with Delivery courier, then it means that it's coming to your address that day.

4kg could cost about $100 to ship to Nigeria but it mostly depends on the dimensional size and weight. You can make use of their shipping calculator. Smaller and Flatter items tend to cost less to ship than bulkier or wide items

Shop online in Nigeria
