Can someone really withdraw from an ATM in Nigeria without using a debit or credit card? Well yes, it is quite possible. In fact is has been possible for quite some time but not many Nigerians have been using this.

This is what mobile money really is about - Giving mobile phone users the ability to send and receive money in Nigeria.

How it works
A sender uses his mobile phone to make a transfer request to his bank
- The bank approves it and generates a password for the sender
- The beneficiary gets the password on his phone and goes to an ATM
- He selects the cashless option and enters the password
- He gets paid by the ATM in cash

It is that simple and the receiver doesn't really need to have any bank account or ATM card online the sender has to have it.

Which Nigerian banks are involved in this?
You can get the service at any bank in Nigeria as it is now available. Some mobile banking applications such as that of etranzact's also have it for free download. However, you just need to get it activated at your bank and get a PIN before using it. There are a couple of USSD codes you would need to dial before sending money and it depends on the bank.

So as long as you have a mobile phone, you can withdraw money from an ATM without using a physical ATM card.
