One of the most reliable way of making money in Nigeria is by writing and publishing a book. However I'd also like you to know that if you really want to make money using this method, then you should really know how to write and then put in your best in doing so.

People don't write books everyday and in fact,, great books which move humanity are not really written in a rush. You need to take time, exercise caution, put in your best and make it useful to people even for up to 100 years.

What I like about Book writing is that it is one of the highest legacies which a person can leave behind, even after he leaves this world. Books tend to live longer than men as some books have lived for more than 2000 years.

A book is an asset and how long it will last, whether it will be a best seller or not, really depends on how much sacrifice is put into writing it. Take a look at Chinua Achebe's Things Fall apart for an example, he wrote it with simple plain English but he tried making sure he put in his best, told his story from a Nigerian perspective and yet the book has remained relevant for almost 60 years. If Chinua Achebe's first book was a man, he would be a grand father by now. What he enjoys now are not just the royalty he receives from it being sold but also the recognition given to him all over the world especially in the USA.

So book writing should be done with diligence. How successful it will be will really depend on how much effective work is put into it.

I guess there are a lot of writers in Nigeria and these could consist of many young people who have written manuscripts waiting to be published and those who are still looking for a direction on what to write about. Well writing and publishing a book in Nigeria really shouldn't be too tough or impossible. The most important aspect of getting a book published is to have good content in the first place and then look for how to get it published.

Here is how to get your book published in Nigeria
- Write your manuscript first. It should be original
- Review your book for errors
- Create your cover page. The graphics for the front and back.
- Seek for a publishing deal. I recommend Createspace.com or Amazon Kindle Program but you could also hook up with any local publishers
- Submit your book for review. For the online publishers, you would have to upload it
- Decide on how much royalty you want to be paid per sale

How much can you earn self publishing with Createspace
Createspace is one online publishing network I have signed up with to publish some of my books and the amount of money you can make really depends on how much you've set your retail price. There is a flat rate thought depending on the size of your book and then you can decide to earn either 70% or 30% of sales. You can also order your book in bulk to resell in Nigeria at a much cheaper rate. So let me give an example, if your book has about 200 pages, it can go for $10 and then you can earn $7 per unit sold if your chosen royalty rate is 70%. You can however order for your own books at the cost price .

So depending on the publisher, you's signed up with, you can decide on your royalty rate per sale and not just a one-off payment since your book can keep getting sold for the long term.

You can get a graphic designer do the cover design for you if you can't do it yourself. You can publish it using createspace.com. They would offer you some guidelines

I am a writer and i have written several novels, poems and other books. there are publishers outside Nigeria requesting that i should send my works to them for publishing, but i do not want to give out my work to publishers i do not know for fear i might lose what i spent sleepless nights and time composing and writing. I so much yearn to get my works published, how does it work with 'createspace.com' will they request for any money from me? How am i sure my work will not be taken from me after submitting the soft copy to them? Please what do you guarantee?

Createspace will not request any money from you. All you need to do is upload your copy and they will publish it. You can buy the books from them directly if you want and they'll sell it to you at cost price. You can also sell your books as an ebook with Amazon's KDP.

Last time I publishd my book with Createspace, the cost price was about $2 and this was for about 50 pages. Yours maybe about $5 or $6. You can add your profit to it when you want to sell. You will be able to estimate the cost by the time you upload your book to them.

People now do both. Thee are still many who prefer reading physical books and some who just prefer digital books.

You can publish your book with Amazon in digital or Physical format. Checkout kdp.amazon.com and createspace.com

Yes you will be the one to design the book cover yourself before uploading it. If you can't do it, get a graphic designer to do it using the format provided by your publisher

It's free to Publish on Amazon through Createspace. You can also publish it on Kindle digital store at kdp.amazon.com. Checkout Createspace.com and upload your book and book cover to start selling it. It's free to use and you'd get paid a royalty for sales made with your book.

Amazon's KDP program makes it easy to publish your book from Nigeria and it's free. Just upload it in MS Word to their website and follow their steps for publishing.

You can upload it to both platforms and you don't really need to first have ISBN number before doing that.
